First up are 1970’s A Trip in the Country, 1979’s Making a Name For Myself, and Roger’s 1985 self-titled album. Starting on Friday, May 27th, Capitol Nashville/UMe is going to begin reissuing Roger Miller’s albums originally released on Mercury, MCA, and Smash Records, making them available for the first time via streaming and download. Sure, if you’re a vinyl junky, maybe you’ve done well finding his full-length albums out there in the wild, but good luck listening to them on the go, while the catalog of one of the greatest songwriters ever in country music is virtually inaccessible to a newer generation of listeners. Though you can pull up many of his most iconic songs such as “King of the Road” and “Dang Me,” most of them are only accessible via the dozen or so “Greatest Hits” compilations that have been licensed over the years. That’s most certainly been the case with the catalog of Country Music Hall of Famer Roger Miller. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.Sometimes one of the most frustrating aspects of being an old school country music fan is the lack of availability of some of the older titles of some of country music’s most important artists. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. ![]() He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. “Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. ![]() She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets." She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. ![]() Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother our last name was Smith. ![]() For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "What it feels to descend from the mountain top. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. 1 At His Best King of the Road King of the Road: The Best of Roger Miller Roger and Out Golden Hits King of the Road Country Hit Parade Chug a Lug The Best of Roger Miller Pure Timeless Hits Greatest Hits 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: Best of Roger Miller The Great Roger Miller 2: King of the Road Best of Roger Miller: His Greatest Songs Memories of Roger Miller Roger Miller Live!
